Can I request a refund for the downloadable version of the PlantingPlanner?

Unfortunately, as is industry standard, we can not offer a refund for the downloadable version of the program - since you already have the software and product key, and there is nothing that can be returned.

We recommend that you read carefully how the PlantingPlanner works and watch our introductory video, or the slightly more detailed overview video - so that you know exactly what you are buying.

Of course, we want you to be thrilled with your purchase, so if you do have any problems during or after downloading and installing the program, please do get in contact via our support page - we will do our utmost to help.

Can I run the PlantingPlanner on my Apple Mac?

The answer is - “yes, but…”.

The Weatherstaff PlantingPlanner has been developed as a Windows® program, and has to run under Windows - unfortunately there is not a Mac OS X version. However, it is still possible to run the PlantingPlanner as a Windows program on a MacBook, iMac, Mac mini or Mac Pro. There are two possible ways to do this:

  1. You can install Windows 10 on your Mac alongside Mac OS X. Then each time you start your Mac, you can select whether to run it as a Mac or as a Windows computer. When you choose to run under Mac OS X, your computer will be the same as ever, but when you choose to run under Windows 10, your computer will become a powerful Windows computer - and you will be able to run the Weatherstaff PlantingPlanner. This mechanism is called dual boot, and is made possible by the Mac built-in Boot Camp feature.
  2. Alternatively, you can run Windows 10 in a window on the Mac OS X desktop. This window is a special program called a virtual machine, and allows one operating system (e.g. Windows) to run inside another operating system (e.g. Mac OS X). The benefit of this is that you can run Mac OS X and Windows programs at the same time - the downsides are that the Windows 10 virtual machine will not be quite as powerful as when using dual boot to run Windows 10 (see 1), and the setup is a bit more complicated

Both approaches will require you to buy Windows 10 Home (which can be purchased from Amazon). Below are some links to articles on the Macworld and Apple websites, which provide easy step by step instructions on how to install Windows 10 on your Mac:

How long does a planting plan take to generate?

Most planting plans are generated in 1 or 2 minutes. For very large borders, combined with multiple planting areas or difficult planting conditions, plans may take longer, perhaps 5 minutes.

If you’re fortunate to have a newer computer, it will generate plans faster than older ones.

Which countries is the PlantingPlanner suitable for?

The Weatherstaff PlantingPlanner is geared towards the temperate climate and plants found in the UK, from the milder southwest England to the cooler climate of north eastern Scotland.

However, customers successfully use it in other countries with similar climates, such as other northern European countries, British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest of the United States.

The vast majority of the plants in the built-in encyclopaedia are available worldwide, although you may need to substitute a named variety for one more widely available in your area - your local garden centre can guide you.

Websites, such as the Invasive Plants Atlas of the United States, can advise you of plant varieties that may be invasive in your area - again your local garden centre should be able to assist you.
